Nautley's clutch has shed and I'm finding it interesting that there's two distinct phenotypes amongst the 8 hatchlings that show the hypo gene. Some are the more typical pale, thin-bordered animals we're used to seeing, but a few of them are taking after mom with regards to dark coloring and thick borders, yet they are distinctly hypos.



A bit of a refresher on mom:











Nautley was bred to Saeten, an anery het hypo, charcoal, lavender. I got 10 eggs and the results were 2 hypos, 2 aneries, and 6 ghosts. Really nice odds.



Before you look at the babies, let me say that mom is NOT an ultra or ultramel or even het for ultra. Her first year she was bred to a snow het hypo and she produced normals, normal aneries, amels, hypos and ghosts.



The two hypo girls that hatched out could not possibly be more different from each other. They are both truly beautiful hatchlings, but at first glance it would be easy to believe they are a normal and a hypo, rather than a pair of hypos.

I'm wondering if dark girl could almost be considered an okeetee-phase hypo. :P

And before you say "But Megan, you're crazy. That's a normal!" here's a belly shot showing that her checkers are chocolate brown, as are her saddle borders. Her sister has interesting almost greenish checkers.









The ghosts aren't quite as dramatic as the hypos, but some definitely have thicker borders than is typical.
