Somebody in NJ has permits for education, while a friend in a neighboring state keeps the breeders. New Jersey will not allow any ESA protected species to be kept, without an almost impossible to acquire, permit... As mentioned earlier, permits are there for educational purposes, but far and few between... It never hurts to try getting one, I recall BW Smith getting the elusive D. couperi permit in Georgia, with a great deal of persistence and paper pushing on his end.
