Sheds can take longer in Winter when background temps are cooler. Even if you are heating the cage thru winter, the shed process can slow down.

The snake almost seems like it is displaying sexually mature male behavior, but early. Could also be something bothering him. Does he have access to some humidity, or an area where he can avoid drying out? Is he merely hungry?

Cal king behavior can change with the season. Especially with males. Calm during some parts of the year, and crazy during other times. I had a male for 20 yrs. During breeding season he could be a real nutcase. In summer, he was incredibly laid back. Not sure if this is what is happening with yours, but I present the info anyway. Cal kings have personalities!
