I don't even have my rat yet but I'm trying to answer all of my questions beforehand. To help keep my rat's nails from being so razor sharp, I was considering using a sandy perch (like you would use for birds). I know bird's nails are somewhat similar and from what I understand the perches last a lifetime. If these aren't recommended, why? And is there any way to safely trim a rat's nails?

Thanks.
