Don't know about pain relief, but when my ratty got older (albeit I knew she was going to have to be put down within the next couple of months) I gave her my cats Catswell Happy Hips chicken strips. Just one once a day, which helped her a little. On halloween, she ran around and dived into all the candy =)

I don't know about long term use of it though, just a precaution,
