I agree, I don't think it is a Leporinus fasciatus (banded leporinus). I couldn't find a picture of a juvenile Leporinus fasciatus, and I counted the bands and there are 9 that I can count. The three spots are visible in the picture too, but I think that makes it a different fish. I don't recognize the fish, so I've promoted your post to see what others think. It will bring more attention to your post. Your fish is quite the little cutie, so I hope we can identify it for you. Maybe you could tell us what the caudal fin (tail) looks like since it's not completely clear in the picture. Looks to me like it's forked.

What are you feeding it, and what all have you tried feeding it? Perhaps the diet could help too.
