Hey Folks,

I have an established 12 gallon Marineland tank with 12 platies. Four are adults and the others are medium sized young from three of these adults. Water parameters are:
ph 7.2
Amonia 0
nitrite 0
nitrate 40
temp 82 (the lighting in the hood keeps it warmer than I would like)

About a week ago we added a new adult platy to the tank and the very next day (within less than 24 hours one of the young fish died). That was 7 days ago and another of the young fish just died today. After the first one died a week ago we noticed that this one that died today was behaving oddly (eating only sporadically, hanging out at the bottom of the tank, moving slowly). We also noticed that his color was a little off (less vibrant than normal and very dull sort of looking).

I didn't notice any odd spots or deformity on either of the dead fish. Everybody else in the tank seems fine and they are behaving normally.

Do I have a problem that was introduced into the tank by this new fish? What can I do to try to figure this out? Any help you could offer would be very much appreciated.

Cheers,
Rex
