I have never personally owned a bird myself but I grew up with birds. My mother was a cocatiel breeder in my child hood and my grandmother loved the cockatoos as she had 6 of them herself. I had been doing a little bit research on birds that I would be interested. I just wanted your input. My mothers advice is go and interact with all of the birds I am interested in and that would help me decide.

I have a big love for big things. Large reptiles large birds large trucks large dogs blah blah. I would love to have a B&G Macaw but due to my living I need to go for a little bit quieter birds since there is no guarantee I will stay in a house to an apartment. I would prefer them to be 14 inches or bigger. I just am curious what every ones experience with their own birds. I don't care if its positive or negative. I want to choose wisely. I am not afraid of any such bird so big beaks are not a problem. I would go for an hyacinth macaw if I had the money for it.

Amazons- Blue fronted, Double yellow head, yellow fronted
Eclectus
Macaw- Yellow collared, Severe, Illegers
African Grey

Thanks for your input

Rich
