I'm so sorry I didn't get to this one before. Hopefully you are all safe and sound and with power now. (I had power just no working computer LOL!)



Just in case you are still experiencing problems or in case anyone else is I will try to offer a few suggestions.



As far as power outages. Birds can survive changes in temperature but should not be subjected to ones too extreme or too quickly. In the wild they are used to cooler and warmer periods with some days being quite hot or quite cool. Our birds on the other hand are used to the same comforts we are and can at times become ill if what they are used to is changed too quickly. If you are without power and are able to have your birds at someone elses house I would suggest doing so. The change in location might stress your birds to a degree but will probably be less stressful then the changes in temperature, lighting, etc. If it is not possible to take them elsewhere then try misting them with water to help them stay cool. If you have a supply of ice then add a cube to their water bowl. Keep them away from windows where the sun will make it even warmer. If they are secure in their cages you might try opening a door or window (as long as it isn't even hotter outside than it is inside) if it is already cooler inside try to keep at least some of the blinds pulled (I know will make the house darker but at least not quite as hot). If you have a friend of family member with power have them freeze a couple pop/soda bottles (the plastic variety) for you. You can then place these cold bottle up against their cage or if their cage is roomy enough even inside the cage. My birds love to try rolling them around or even sitting on them LOL! As the ice in the bottle melts it also creates a cold condensation on the outside many like to lick off or try to bathe with.
