AnimalHelp.Com's Equine / Large Animal Technical Emergency Rescue Training Course is rapidly approaching! There are still a few spots left! Join us July 15th-17th at Hilton Head Island, SC for 3 days of intense classroom and hands-on training using live horses and real rescue equipment, learning how to rescue horses from flood waters, deep mud, bridge or ditch emergencies, trailer accidents, etc...
Classroom Training
Each day begins with classroom training introducing you to a wide variety of subjects dealing with large animal rescue. You will become familiar with the behavioral characteristics of horses and other large animals in stressful environments, equipment used in restraint and containment, and the use of sedatives or tranquilizers in rescue. The students will become familiar with the Incident Command System as it relates to law enforcement and emergency medical responders who will be on the scene. Each aspect of the hands-on training will also be introduced so that students understand the procedures they will work within once they get out into the field for the afternoon sessions.
Hands-On Training
Following the classroom session each day will be a chance to put to use all of the knowledge you have gained. Using real horses and a llama, students will practice the forward assist of a down horse, placement of leg hobbles, mud rescue, vertical lift, and airlift rescue. Students will also participate in a mock trailer accident learning how to upright a horse trailer using good old man-power.
Night Search and Rescue Operation
On the 2nd day of training, students will return to the training site two to three hours after sunset to participate in a nighttime search and rescue operation. This will require students to rely heavily on their day's training, as they must "find" and rescue a real horse from a thickly wooded ditch.
Audience
Technical Large Animal Rescue Training is available to anyone 18 years of age or older who may be involved in the rescue of large animals from disaster and emergency situations. Candidates for this training include Law Enforcement Officers, Fire/Rescue, Military Veterinarians, Large Animal Veterinarians, Disaster Animal Response Team Members, Horse Owners, and anyone interested in the rescue of horses and other large animals.
