I have a gelding that I board. He was in a large paddock with another mare (who didn't belong to me) and after a while they got along fine. We got a new mare and moved out the other mare and moved the new one in. They seem to be doing okay (no one has gotten hurt yet). However, they are still either staying way apart or are chasing each other. They have both jumped the gate of the paddock to get away from the other. When I seperate them, the mare starts pacing and calling to the gelding. They have only been together for two days and this has been intermittently. How long does it usually take for them to settle and accept one another? I can't really leave them together if someone isn't watching them because as I said they will jump the 5 foot gate to get away from the other. Any suggestions?
