>>My family is thinking about getting a baby pygmy. We have friends that breed them and i am researching on the internet how to care for them....could some one recommend a good website and also let me know the best place/ enclosure they need, things they like to eat and recommended care. I want the best for my baby...i need to go to city hall first to make sure i can get one....i have plenty of room for one. Thanks, Krystal
Hi Krystal -
We have a couple of pygmies that run out with our horses. I do have to pen them up at feed time though because they are feed thieves For such little things, they have no problems running our appaloosas away from their feed buckets! Ours live predominantly on grazing/browsing, and then a small amount of horse feed to keep them happy in their pen while the horses eat. You can also buy goat feed from the feed stores that is made specifically for them. Browsing is an important part of their diet though so be sure if you don't have plenty of stuff for them to browse on, to provide them with some good hay - stalky hay is fine. You'll need a good fence to keep them enclosed, they are very smart and will go over, under and through anything that isn't very stout and can hold them!
Good luck with getting your new baby! ----- PH Cody HorseHobbyist Site Coordinator
