>>Whats the best way to care for a goat before it is killed? What wormers should be used, how often? >>What should they eat, not eat? >>Why wethers and not bucklings? >>Thanks! >>Michelle
Once upon a time I actually knew the answers to all this stuff but that was many moons ago!!! You don't use it, you lose it! The best person to ask is going to be your vet when it comes to the wormers, and many of the dewormers will tell you on the packaging the withdrawal times or if they are even allowed to be used in animals meant for meat. I can't remember enough on the what to feed, but call up your local ag extension agency and they should be able to help there! And if my memory is even the least bit accurate, wethers will put more energy into growth and the lack of testosterone in the meat will make it taste better as well as make the muscling less tough. The bucklings will put more energy into reproductive development, as well as have the high levels of testosterone.
Hope that helps a little If I run across my old livestock feeds and feeding book, I'll look into the feed question more for you! ----- PH Cody HorseHobbyist Site Coordinator
