I am neither for or against declawing. All of my cats are currently declawed, but not because they were destroying furniture. When I first moved in with my husband, my cats were afraid of his son, Hunter (they had never seen such a hyper little human before) Any time Hunter would try to pet them and snuggle them (he was never rough with them however, he was always good with the cats)they would quickly make their escape and claw him badly in the process. It does not seemed to have changed their personalities in any way. Baku is still the lovable, follow you around the house cat, Mocha is still the lazy do nothing cat, and Suki is still the terror, running around leeping off the furniture. I have a very good vet and none of my cats seemed to be in any pain, all of them healed quickly. I would rather see my cats with out claws then have to try to find new homes for them because they keep harming my now stepson. Furniture or material possesions where never the issues, but rather a 3 year old that loves 'his' kitties.

One thing that bothers me... There are so many people screaming that declawing is cruel, but at the same time telling everyone to surgically have the cats reproductive organs removed. Is there really a difference in cruelty here? My cats were in more pain after being spayed/nuetered than after declaw......... Just a thought.
