I have two 12 year old males. My vet had me switch them to Senior food when they were about 9 because they started putting some weight on. When I switched to Senior, the extra pound or two came off and they have maintained the same weight since they were 2 years old.
I decided to go with Nutro Natural Choice Complete Care for Seniors. It is a comprehensive formula with the right nutritional readings based on the research I did. It does have a hairball formula mixed in, but I have a cat more prone to hairballs. So, I mix 2/3 Nutro Natural Choice Complete Care for Seniors with 1/3 Science Diet Hairball Formula for Seniors and that works for me.
I feed dry only, no wet. I free feed.
As your cat is senior and overweight, recommend you discuss nutritional changes with your vet on your next visit. Mine had me switch to high quality Senior when my two put on a couple pounds around age 9... ----- Tammy
