I have seen them literally fly right into a cats paws. Jaime is right though they are little germ carriers and it isn't a good idea to let him chow down, if you can prevent it. Not only that, but mourning doves mate for life, so if he had killed it there would be a mate somewhere with a broken heart looking for her/his mate.
