I have two long coated Maine Coon mixes and yes we bath. I can usually tell when its time becuase the tips of there coat actually looks a bit oily and clumping up at the tips.
I too have been doing baths occasionally since they were kittens they don't really want the baths but they do tolerate them.

I think its amazing on the strength they seem to get when they want to get the heck out of the laundry tub...Hercules!
