If one of the practices has more than one vet, you may want to ask the front desk (when you call in) if anyone specializes in cat in the practice. The past few years, I've specifically asked if anyone specializes in geriatric cats and have had wonderful luck with two vets that really know their stuff when it comes to older cat issues. When the first left last year, I just took them in to whichever vet was available the first time after she left. Had a bad experience -- the vet didn't know common Senior cat issues and admitted she was more of a dog person. She gave me some questionable advice (contradicted what the specialist had discussed with me). The next time I went back, I asked if they had a vet on staff that specialized in geriatric cats and they referred me to my current vet -- she'd actually just came on board and replaced the one I had been using. It pays to ask -- my new vet is wonderful and has done a great job this past year. On top of Senior issues.
