Our current cat was a pet originally, then was stray for a couple of years before we took him in. We know he was a pet because someone had neutered him already. I guess the first month was a little rough, but it's been 4 years now and my husband and I love the cat like a child. He's not a lap cat though, but every morning before we leave for work he comes rubbing on my legs wanting to be picked up and loved on for a few minutes. He doesn't dig in plants, but I think that's something that can change from cat to cat. I don't think you'll have many problems, especially since your cat was only a stray for a couple of months. Let it settle into a routine and eventually he'll let you know when he's ready to be petted and loved on. Good luck!
