This sounds like somewhat of a marking issue. Perhaps the recent move caused some stress. Since it is intermittant it might not be too hard to stop.

First you need to use an enzyme cleaner on that blanket. I would also cover the area with foil for now. Most cats will avoid foil. If you can set up a small litterbox right near where he is pooping that might help too. If he starts using that, then you can gradually move the box closer and closer to where the real litterbox is.

Check into using Feliway, a spray that mimics the happy scent cats leave when they rub their check against something. You can get it from your vet or from Cat Faeries at http://www.catfaeries.com or from the www.feliway.com site. Also check out Comfort Zone - a plug-in that difuses feliway. Sprtiz a little around the area where he is marking, or set up the plug-in close to there.

Finally, if all else fails, ask your vet about using an antianxiety medication such as Buspar or Prozac. These very often work, however the decision to prescribe them will rest solely with your veterinarian who will be able to monitor the dosage and side effects. In your cat's case it will help him "unlearn" the marking behavior and then the medication can be withdrawn.

Smile, it will make them wonder what you are up to!
