It is good that you are having the cat examined by the vet. She is probably spayed if you got her from a shelter, but if she isn't the vet will be able to tell.

Her behaviors sounds a bit like being in heat, although I would suspect that somehow she feels reinforced when she does the elevator butt routine. The sounds of someone walking by may trigger that response - sort of like Pavolov's dogs. She hears the sound, thinks it's time to do her cute thing and gets some sort of response from you that she feels is desirable.

Good luck with the kitty. She really sounds like a cutie pie. Let us know what the vet says.
