Hi Mike,
It's usually best to let cats work these things out on their own. There isn't really anything you can do to help them to become more compatible. One thing you can do, though, is try to distract the male when he is playing with the female. An interactive toy might be what you need. Maybe if you can spend time playing with the male especially, he will look towards you as another playmate instead of your girl.
I have had to deal with this kind of thing in my household. My Jonny Cat as a baby was very, very active, and my seniors didn't appreciate it. Spending extra time playing with him helped tremendously, especially when I was using interactive toys. His favorite game was, and still is, chasing a flashlight beam
