Yeah, it depends on the cat, but sometimes it also depends on you. Most of my cats wanted to sleep with me as kittens, but I think I roll and move a lot, so they would stop after awhile. But Maggie, my cat now, I had to train to stop sleeping on my head, because she wants to be as close as possible. Now she either sleeps draped over one of my arms or down by my calf, depending on her mood I guess. I have a tiny little single futon, so its not like there's a lot of room.
Maggie is generally clingy and gets very upset if I won't let her sit on me all the time. I've been knitting a lot, so she fusses at me from the chair arm, and repeatedly tries to sit on my hands and whatever I am knitting if I try to shoo her away. I've had 6-7 cats in my life, and never had a cat as clingy as her. I also had close her out as a kitten because she would bring every one of her toys into my bed in the middle of the night, usually dropping them right on my face.
