It's true. My 4 cats will get overstimulated if I pet them too long. They will turn around and bite me when they've had enough. Especially Samantha, the one that they call "The Mean One, Mr. Grinch."
My grandchildren and I have adopted this policy of "Leave them wanting more". We will pet for a few seconds/minutes but will always walk away before they bite, leaving them wanting more.
It's really kind of cute, because both David and Paula will pet for just a little bit and then before the cat gets to the biting stage, will walk away and repeat the phrase, "Leave them wanting more".
This little suggestion works well with timid cats too.
