You might want to back up a few steps and keep the cats separated for most of the time and together when they seem to be mellow. You might see if you can see a pattern as to when they get along and when the kitten starts to aggress and time together time to the quieter moments.

Try playing with the kitten using a feathered tease in the presence of the older cat, and also see if the older cat will join in. Feeding them in the same room, but far apart is something else that sounds like can be done right now.

The kitten is actually showing some "mounting" behavior. This is not a sexual thing, but actually his attempt at showing who is boss. This may or may not continue as the tetasterone gets out of his system after the neutering (generally this takes some time). However, even though this is painful to watch, you should not intervene because you can make matters work. They are going to have to work this out in their own way.

If you haven't tried the Comfort Zone plug-in with Feliway you might want to do so - also you could try rubbing a bit of Rescue Remedy on the eartips or putting a few drops in their drinking water.

Be sure each cat has his own food dish, water dish and litterbox.

Keep us posted. Don't give up on the new guy yet. They may work things out.

Smile, it will make them wonder what you are up to!
