My cat Quentin, who is 6 years old, sometimes chases his tail. A couple times he even nipped at it. He didn't hurt himself but then meowed like he didn't understand what happened. He doesn't have worms and is in good health. It's funny to see a grown cat acting like this, but I'm not real concerned. I think that in Quentin's case it's something to keep him occupied. I wouldn't worry unless your cat is hurting herself; otherwise it's probably just a quirk.
