My 3 month old kitten carries around some of my small stuffed animals -- and some of them are just as big as she is! It's funny to watch -- I get a kick out of it! She usually brings them to her food bowl and plays with them.

About the cat waking you up, I'd either:

A) Sleep with the door closed, or
B) Keep a spray bottle at the head of the bed

I wouldn't worry about him seeing you use the spray bottle -- we're the masters, so it shouldn't be a problem for our cats to associate us with discipline. As long as you don't overdo it or punish them without reason, there shouldn't be a problem.
