I have seen other cats do this, but it's more common for them to do it after eating. This may be a carryover from when cats were wild and covered the remainder of their food to keep predators away. Anyway, this behavior during eating may be a little unusual, but is no cause for concern. I know a middle aged cat that has done this all her life!
