Hi,

It sounds as if something traumatic happened in January to frighten Phoebe badly. Can you think of anything at all? Even having a stranger come into a home is enough to severely stress some cats. They are creatures of habit and they don't like changes. Was there anything different going on in your home during the holidays?

Phoebe is very nervous and sounds insecure. My feeling is that she might do better if she doesn't have the run of the house for the time being. Maybe try keeping her in the bedroom and see how that goes since she seems to feel safe while under the bed. Let her come out on her own when she is comfortable, don't force her.

There are antianxiety drugs that work well in cats. Two of mine are on Clomipramine and they are doing very well. I feel that medication would be a good thing to try with Phoebe.

Since you already had labwork done, it wouldn't be a top priority to have it repeated, but you might want to consider it. The hiding and lack of grooming especially may indicate a physical problem. Labwork results can change from one day to the next.

Take care, and please keep us updated.

Regards,
PHKitkat
