Way too much hair. This is rediculous.

Smokey can fill a vacuum cleaner bag after just three uses in my 700 square foot condo. He is a large, medium hair, tripple coat tabby who sheds issesantly. Thankfully he likes to be brushed, but I can brush him for 45 minutes and then run my hand along his back and get out another clump of fur. I just can't keep up with it. I'm considering shaving him, but he's beautiful and hate the idea of removing his pretty coat. Are there any other solutions?

Also, I am looking for a good web resource about do-it-yourself grooming...including shaving. I used to be a groomer in high school -- before certifications were required -- and I don't feel the need to pay someone $60 to shave Smokey's fur. I just need to brush up my skills a little. (harhar)

Thanks!
