>>Smokey can fill a vacuum cleaner bag after just three uses in my 700 square foot condo. He is a large, medium hair, tripple coat tabby who sheds issesantly. Thankfully he likes to be brushed, but I can brush him for 45 minutes and then run my hand along his back and get out another clump of fur. I just can't keep up with it. I'm considering shaving him, but he's beautiful and hate the idea of removing his pretty coat. Are there any other solutions? >> >>Also, I am looking for a good web resource about do-it-yourself grooming...including shaving. I used to be a groomer in high school -- before certifications were required -- and I don't feel the need to pay someone $60 to shave Smokey's fur. I just need to brush up my skills a little. I am sorry to hear that you have that problem. The same happens with my Bob, but I just have to put up with it until he finishes getting his summer coat (he got rid of his ruff, already, hehe. I cannot help much, but I can suggest you though to buy one of those coat supplements to see if that helps with the shedding. They are usually oil mixtures with vitamins that you put on the food. Bob doesnt really have a vit deficiency, but I give him some now and then anyway. Daisy on the other hand, hasnt shed a bit...Wonder why. Maybe she doesnt have a double coat. Good luck with the kittie and the hair. May i suggest start knitting a sweater, ? -----
