My girlfriend works in a vet clinic and was bitten by a stray cat that had been quarantined after biting another person 3 days earlier. The vet says that she should wait 10 days to get the rabies vaccine, at which point he can determine if the animal in infected or not. However, I have read reports that the incubation period in humans can be as short as 5 days after exposure.
