I would continue what you are doing and see how things are going in a couple of months or so. Weight loss can be very slow in cats but in your case perhaps it should be a bit faster. As your cat loses weight he may become more active which in turn will speed things up.

If he has not lost another pound in three months, then you should probably consult your vet about the situation!
