Many vets recommend getting the cat rabies only - no other shots if they are going to be an inside cat - and at that every three years. However, if you ever plan on boarding your cat or if your cat might ever have to stay overnight at the vets' then you should also get the series for upper respiratory viruses - lots of letters and I can never remember them.

I would definitely keep any indoor cat up to date on rabies because that is just too risky to let go by. If your cat should bite a person and you have no record of current (most states it's three years) rabies vaccines, your cat my be taken away. And if by some rare chance your cat contracted rabies this could be a potential time bomb with serious health consequences for you and your loved ones.

Talk with your vet about what s/he thinks about each vaccine. Your vet knows the incidence of disease in your area and can help you assess whether or not the cat needs the shots.

Smile, it will make them wonder what you are up to!
