I just read about brushing from tail to head on 5 different sites. They recommend this in long haired kitties to get the hair underneath out. It says you should do it with a comb with no more then 10 teeth to the inch. Also I have read you should part the coat and sprinkle lightly with baby powder. Then Brush it out. The baby powder acts as a dry shampoo and helps to remove any remaining dirt or grease from the fur.
I brush Crash the wrong way once in a while. It seemed to help get all the tics off of her. Of course I hadn't read to do that. It also seemed to help get all the dirt out from underneath the top coat. She was purring while I did it so that must mean it doesn't hurt. I haven't ever tried with Moxie. Not sure I would try it. But it did say to use a comb not a brush when grooming from tail to head. I always used a brush but now I might switch.
