Hello all, I am new here (hope I don't sound like it though). In two months I have gone from having no kitties to having five of them. All have tested positive for FIV (before I got them). Two are kittens that I am fostering for PurrsAbound (and I have found a couple that are very interested in them), but the three adults - Romeo, Lola and Kingsley are mine (well as much as any other living creature will ever be "mine" .
Romeo, Lola and the kittens were all rescues from the Ingham county (Michigan) animal shelter, and if it hadn't been for the PurrsAbound people they wouldn't have made it through that day, they were rescued literally hours from death's door.
Kingsley came from a local veternarian who acquired him after he was found to be FIV and the owner didn't want to risk a geriatric cat also in the household.
These cats have a loving household for as long as they need it. They are a joy to have around, and for what I get I am willing to put up with the possible heartbreak.
Actually from what I've read about FIV, even though it is potentially fatal, it usually isn't. And who's to say that they may not outlive another cat without FIV. Like the vet that I got Kingsley from said, life is a chance for all of us.
Oh well, they have a loving home for as long as they need it. Anyone else here with a FIV kitty?
