>>thanks for all responses -
>>
>>if all the cat tests incl. heartworm, lungworm, xray, are ok but the white lung cell from the lung wash shows a high concentration suggesting asthma, could the diagnosis still be lungworm ? If, for eg. the cat is totally active, oblivious except for an expectorant cough. Can lungworm sometimes not show up in the stool sample ? can a stool sample be too 'old' to show accurately?
>>
>>The cough is once or ttwice a day and often after sleeping soundly, next to other cat - could there be a pollen, dust, dander allergy?
>>
>>has anyone used an elimination diet to find a protein allergy? he has been eating beef for months.
>>
>>Thanks !

Some of questions are very technical and deserve a better answer than I could possibly research and give you. Please try posting on the "Ask the Holistic Vet" board and Dr. Tobin will give you the best answer possible. Dr. Tobin will sometimes take a coupld of days to answer, but you will get some wonderful, knowlegeable help there.

You might ask your vet to guide you through an elimination diet to see what effect it has on the cat, however most food allergies result in either skin or digestive problems in cats, and are not usually the triggers for asthma. On the other hand, dust may be a likely culprit, although I tend to doubt if the dander from the other cat is at fault. This is an area where a veterinary allergist can help if you have one in your town.
