>>Hi There,
>>
>>I like Just Born as a kitten milk replacer and recommend the powder over the ready-to-feed. It has a much longer shelf life and I like the idea of mixing up a fresh batch on a daily basis. As far as a weaning formula, you can always water down a premium quality canned kitten food, or start the babies on strained meat baby foods as a transitional food. There aren't very many actual weaning foods out there to chose from.
>>
>>I would feed the mom a premium quality kitten food, as much as she wants. The extra nutrients in the food will be good for her. It's hard work raising all those babies and the moms burn up a lot of what they eat.

I agree with other suggestions to this post although I've never been faced with the decision to feed a replacement milk. My Samantha did have two litters of kittens before I figured out that she needed spayed and NOW. I would think that whatever milk replacement that you choose would be for such a short term that whatever chemicals there are, wouldn't have that much of an effect on the kittens in the long run. When they are about 6 weeks old, you can water down kitten food for them which is what I did for Sammi's kittens.

And I do agree that you should be feeding Mommy cat a very high protein diet while she is nursing the babies. I go for canned, myself, but you can decide whatever you want. Kitten food is very high in protein. That's what I fed Samantha..canned kitten food and she love it. All of her kittens were healthy!

Good luck to you and please keep us updated.
