Kitten With Spinal Injury

My son brought home an 8 week old kitten on Friday who has had the lumbar area of her spine broken. The injury was an accident (she was going thru a door just as it was slamming shut) when she was about 3 or 4 weeks old and she was not taken to a vet. It's been too long to be able to fix it but my vet thinks that if we work with her we will be able to get her walking on at least 3 legs (one is hyperextended). Right now she walks on the front 2, pushes with her back legs while sitting on her hip sliding along. She's also incontinent (which the vet does not thik will improve) and must wear a diaper to keep from making a big mess in the house. Prior to my son bringing her home she had been living outside for the past 2 or 3 weeks and being fed rather irratically. Amazingly, other then the injury she seems to be very healthy and is a typical kitten.
