I am contemplating bringing my grandmothers cat(Kelsie, 3 yrs old) into my household. When she was 6 months old she tested positive for FelV (on the snap test). She was the only cat in the household and was otherwise healthy so the lab test was not pursued. I am currently thinking of vaccinating my 8-month old cat(Dibs), then bringing Kelsie into my home. Kelsie is very healthy, so I don't know if she is a carrier or if she has beaten the virus or what. I have an appointment to have her re-tested. But I am curious, could she still be shedding the virus if she tests negative? If she tests positive, but is otherwise healthy otherwise, is she still a threat to Dibs? My grandmother can not care for her much longer and I need to think of re-homing options for her if I am not able to bring her into my home. Any suggestions?
