Hi There,

My opinion is that a cat that stops eating, or is eating much less than normal, needs to be seen by a vet. Only a vet can examine the cat and order diagnostics to determine what the problem is.

In a senior kitty, there are several things that can cause anorexia. It can be something as simple as bad teeth, or something as serious as kidney failure, liver problems, or even diabetes or a tumor. One thing is certain, and that is that when a cat stops eating, it is in danger of developing hepatic lipidosis, otherwise known as fatty liver disease, which is fatal withour treatment. This can start to occur within 2 - 3 days without food.

You can try offering your cat strained meat baby food (with no onion added) but if this doesn't work, I would seriously consider a trip to the ER. Remember that a senior kitty can go downhill very rapidly.

I will keep you and your baby in my thoughts and prayers. Please keep us updated.

Regards,
PHKitkat
