Hi There,

First, I'd like to say that I am very sorry for your loss.

It's really impossible to say what is ailing your boy, although at his age it may be more than one thing. He may very well have some bad teeth, but he should also have a full blood panel run to determine if anything else is wrong. Also a urinalysis, mainly because kidney problems show up in the urine before the blood.

Often, senior kitties will lose muscle mass as they age, so there is a possibility that this is why your cat has lost weight. Still, you want to be sure that all is well, and if not, that whatever is wrong will be treated. Our seniors are prone to many problems, especially kidney issues. Older senior males are also prone to diabetes, especially if they are overweight. I know your boy has lost weight but he could have become diabetic before.

You might want to try offering him some strained meat baby foods (with no onion added) to see if he will eat something that he just has to lap. Often, cats that are not feeling 100% will eat baby food before anything else.

Please keep us updated on what the vet says. I'll keep you and your baby in my thoughts and prayers.

Regards,

PHKitkat
