Cancerous abdominal tumors are quite common in cats, but not all of them are untreatable. Not all of them are cancer. Unfortunately there is no way of knowing what is going on in this case!

I wish I had an answer on how to get your friend to take better care of her cats. There is not much you can do short of talking to her. I don't know her financial situation, but perhaps you might offer to help with some of the basic care expenses. If it is a matter of time or annoyance perhaps you can offer to take the animals to the vet or at least drive her there.

I wish you well in trying to help this cat and also in trying to make your friend realize the importance of veterinary care.

Smile, it will make them wonder what you are up to!
