I brought my 18 yr odl cat into the vet b/c she was not eating at all and was dealing with a pretty hefty upper respitory infection. Doc also diagnosed kidney failure. Since Monday of this week she's been on Ampicillin, IV fluids, and Benadryl. ALso an anti-gas medication (Simethicone??) to help get rid of some of the gas she had inside (due to gulping of air b/c of the upper respiratory problem). She's slowly starting to get her appetite back. I've been giving her dry food (purina one) as well as some canned kitten food /baby food and a multi-vitamin. She's eating about 1/4 cup (or slightly more) of the dry food and 1/3 can every day.

She's urinating on a regular basis but has not had a bowel movement since at least Wednesday. It may have even been longer but she was sharing a box with 2 others and wednesday was when I separated her so I could monitor her food intake better.

Is this normal for a cat who's only just started eating after a week of no appetite? Or is it a side effect of any of the meds? Is there something I can add to help the process along?

Thanks!

Heather
