Some cats prefer the fountains some don't like them. I have 22 cats, I bought one fountain and it lasted about 2 days before they literally tore it apart and flooded the kitchen. I have several water bowls around the house, I keep fresh water in them and refill them twice a day and have had no problem with dehydrated cats in close to 30 years of having cats.
