The horror stories associated with things that have gone wrong with checked pets are legion. (We just had a very sad situation here. A baggage handler dropped the crate, the dog got out and ran off into the woods surrounding the runways, and despite the fact that there were multiple sightings reported she was never recovered.) Don't risk it -- especially since you will have layovers.
Check with your vet and see if you can give the kitties a mild sedative to carry them through. But please don't risk their lives by trusting them to the baggage system.

>>Well, my two girls and I are moving across the country. On Oct. 3rd we take a flight that will be about 12 hours including lay-overs.
>>
>>So, I need some advice. I am very nervous about flying with my two kitties. I really want them in cabin with me- but as you guys may know, the size restrictions on carriers are insane! I just got a carrier from online that fits regulations- both kitties can fit in it, but it doesn't allow them much room to move around.
>>
>>The alternative is that I can put them in a roomier carrier and check them. Of course, I would be much more comfortable if I had them in my control at all times. But is that worth having them spend an uncomfortable trip squeezed in a small carrier?
>>
>>Any thoughts?
