Sad how dependent we are on all these, especially considering
the only one around before I was an adult was the washer!

How true! I remember when my parents bought their first microwave - it was so new that for several days friends, family and neighbors came over to see it. Mom would make baked potatoes in it while everyone stood around and watched! Can you imagine?
