Hi Heidi,
The pointed gene is heat sensitive so if the cat is not in a controlled environment with heat and air conditioning and the same basic temperature, anything can happen.
To make a point - no pun intended -- it is said that Siamese cats in the African heat only have color on their nose.
A lilac point could be called a purple cat but should never really look brown.
A seal point will get darker and darker on the body in normal conditions. This is normal. It looks like your cat was recently spayed in the second photo. Surgery can also affect coat color so don't be amazed if her belly hairs grow in darker for awhile.
