I have a 19 y/o abbey who suddenly began limping severely 3 weeks ago. Bloodwork shows he is slightly anemic (not bad for his age) but every thing else is fine, thyroid,, liver, etc.
X-rays show some arthritis in the right rear leg. He refuses to move from his "spot" by the heat register unless it is to use the litterbox, he has not had an accident. But it is painful to even watch him try to make it to the litterbox. When he is laying by the register he is usually sleeping, but wakens and is very alert and focused, he will play with his front legs, he is eating and drinking normally and the supplements the vet has provided has not had any affect on him. He is getting a pill for inflamation, Cosequin, a 1/4 baby aspirin every 3 days and another liquid supplment. Since the cat has a heart murmur the vet has declined to give him a steroid shot, only will as a last resort. I simply find it hard to put down my cat who is otherwise so alert and well. This came on suddenly. He still grooms himself as well. Any hope for me and my baby?
