I suspect that a lot of the kidney problems we see in cats is due to the distemper vaccination, as the virus for this vaccine is grown on feline kidney tissue. To avoid this problem, use the internasal vaccine in kittens, and do not revaccinate. Right now, to deal with your cat's problem, do not feed any dry food, but give canned or fresh meat . A good basic diet is chicken, with bone, but right now you should include raw beef kidney, and since your cat also has a heart problem, I suggest some raw beef heart as well on a daily basis. You want to get as much water as possible into your cat, so you could add water to the food, and puree everything. Add increasing amounts of salt to help her retain water. To avoid the effects of poor kidney function, add calcium carbonate to the diet, along with Chitosan and a good probiotic. Some other supplements that are useful include cod liver oil, Coenzyme Q10, DHEA and NAC.
